March 15, 2015 -- Day Two in Pensacola I needed quiet time for myself to reflect and think. Earlier in the afternoon, I spent a couple of hours at the cemetery with my parents listening for answers and guidance. The silence was not only deafening, but exhausting. The beach has always been a place where I could find the quiet that I needed to mentally recharge and regroup. I needed to get back into the moment and stop the ruminating. Through the colors of the sunset, the sounds, the smells and endless horizons representing the possibilities in life, one of the voices visually spoke to me. It was subtle and painted in the sunset. The moment did not last long--literally minutes. The colors faded as rapidly as they appeared. Eventually, the painted calling turned gray. Taking a step back, how can the beauty of a sunset get lost in the chaos of our all-to-busy world? I would have lost this moment if I continued to be self-absorbed with the things I have no control of. I do have control of the things I devote my time to. “Purple Sunrise” Denver, Colorado Not really a sunset, but this is an image of one of those rare moments in the morning. It lasted only a few minutes before the colors disappeared into just another day.
Denver restaurant as the sun set on the Rockies. I adjusted this a bit in Aperture by warming it up a bit (6500K), then dropped the exposure by 2. Beyond the blownout intensity of the sun (which looks like a nuclear explosion), there are very subtle moods and outlines I like in this image.
Fairfax, Virginia -- A vibrant orange & red east coast sunset viewed through the front door shears. There is a contrast of light between the orange reflected on the window and the normal coloring of the front street.

Near Columbia, Missouri -- Traveling west on I-70, I captured the sun rising in my side-view mirror. I really like the contrasts in this image of the westward vs. eastward sky.
Denver, Colorado -- Intense Colorado sunset just after the sun disappeared below the Rocky Mountains. The reflection on the lake adds another dimension of color to the image.
Denver, Colorado -- You can always tell if there is going to be a spectacular sunset when there is a layer of clouds just above the horizon. This allows the sun to hide behind, then break out below to create vivid colors and the classic sun rays.
Near Indianapolis, Indiana -- The intensity of a late afternoon sun juxtaposed against the man-made electric power grid and icons of industry.
Near Salinas, Kansas -- An afternoon sun beams through a small break in the clouds to highlight a couple of 18-wheelers. I ran this image through Snapseed to rough up the texture to give it a more spiritual feel.
