2017-11-27-EOS-5768Chasing Rabbits Again
on a day of sadness
and closure
the loss of a loving and loyal companion
one single day lily bloomed
remembrance and blessing
she left for a better world
no pain
new eyes
new legs
playfully chasing rabbits again

2017_11_06_iOS_0112 - Version 2Contrasting Red against Grey
walking through a parking lot
looking and noticing
contrasting red against the drab grey of the ground
discarded--dropped--spilled
wasted--but reborn into a juxtaposition of art
hard light--casted shadows
contrast in color
contrast in texture
random pattern--as they were
sweetness versus the mundane
found by just being aware of this moment

Comfort of Routine
every Sunday evening the clatter of the keys
a routine letter to his parents
the happenings of the week
devotion and loyalty
for me
the comfort of presence
gave way to the reminder of Monday
and school

quiet and simple
lost within the thought
grounded inspiration
no mirror or reflection
can take away its confidence
let it dance in the wind

2017-11-09-EOS-5644 - Version 2Here and Now
autumn
path within the trees
within the sounds of quiet
carried by the sounds of rocks and stones under my step
rustling of the aspens the call of birds
alone with nothing by the chatter of my thoughts
it can all change
the next bend is unknown
this is not the life of a cubical
it is not the clatter of the office
not the news commute or meaningless conflict
this is living
here and now

lines lead to an overexposed brightness
a photographic error
but a creative accident
a path to infinity

the path creates a sense of curiosity

2009_05_11 0136_edit - Version 2Endurance
abandoned only in body
scars of the past
a home of those no longer living
a different time different era
the trees lay witness before and after
built by hand and an intent of a dream
yet through it all
it still stands
spirits remain

Windswept Imagination
simple and uncluttered
open with big sky
bright sun
horizon you can see the earth curve
power lines that connect
contrasted by wind-swept grasses
the feeling of freedom
being able to head in any direction
alone on the horizon is a lone building

2017-10-30-iOS-IMG_0049 - Version 3Generating Emotion
a birdhouse
bokeh
rejected this image at first because the birdhouse was not straight
makes me want to reach out and fix it
then retake the image
but this is what this moment was
a reminder that few things are perfect
it is not about capturing perfection
it is about capturing a moment
capturing an emotion
then generating emotion

2017-10-28-EOS-5585 - Version 2Perfect Plan -- Imperfect Results
the idea was to track the moon across the night sky
the plan: multiple exposures, equally timed, resulting in a sequential progression in the final merged image
the timing thrown off by the things that just happen
the unexpected
the final image imperfect
but meaningful in its own way
reflective of everyday beats in life
Tripod mounted Canon 5D Mark II; Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L + 2x; RAW Image post in Aperture 3.6 and multiple images layered and merged in Snapseed for iOS.

2017-10-27-iOS-TNBQ7281 - Version 2Contrails
this was not a plan
this was not an idea
I did not look for this
this was a moment
and I noticed it
capture it now
or it will be lost
maybe next time
if...
see it
shoot it
work it later
think about it later

Reflective Without Judgement
it was there waiting to be seen
this one angle captured its reflection
others blurred in the moment
reflective of itself
reflective of day-to-day life
the bloom does not see itself
it lives without judgement
independent in a sense of community
Canon 5D Mark II; Canon 50mm f/1.2L: RAW Image post in Aperture 3.6 and Intensify 1.2.3
The water in the bird feeder caught my eye as I was passing our "Rabbit Bed" garden. I used a very shallow depth of field at f/1.2 and focus on the reflection in the water. Converting to black and white, I reduced the distraction of color which brings out the relationship of the individual objects in the image.

Hidden Lines and Shapes
without color
hidden lines and shapes
no distractions
Canon 5D Mark II; Canon 50mm f/1.2L: RAW Image post in Aperture 3.6 and Intensify 1.2.3
Color can hide and blind the lines and shapes within an image. Color can distract. Black and White has the ability to change the emotion and focus of a moment.
