Open bloom like an open hand, outspread arms, or open soul. Vulnerability brings calm in a world lost from from the essence of nature. In the end, the noise changes nothing other than to distract. The natural world is the only place that speaks truth.

The strawberry invokes the past, present and future. It comes from nothing. Within its present, the future grows from which it will return to nothing to start again.
But for now, it is here.
Leonard Koren, Wabi-Sabi: For Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers: “But when does something's destiny finally come to fruition? Is the plant complete when it flowers? When it goes to seed? When the seeds sprout? When everything turns into compost?”

“I never have taken a picture I’ve intended. They’re always better or worse.”

I did not plan this image. It was there when I pressed the shutter. I saw something, but did not find it until later. If you see it in any form, with any meaning, shoot it.

Words Trickle
no words come to mind
as peaceful moments wrap me
quiet brook trickles
Nothing happens as I stare at the image.
No words.
No inspiration.
Nothing.
It is only what is in front of me.
Yellow, green, curves, an upward glance as if they are asking--maybe giving thanks.
They flow with a softness to their edges.
They do not need words--we do not need conversation.
We can just be.

Reaching for Enlightenment

enlightenment
When I picked up the camera and headed outside, I did not have an idea. I looked around, but I was not seeing. The light was getting dark and I was not motivated to setup a tripod, grab a light, or be creative. I wanted something to say I did something. Looking up, I took this shot. In that moment, the view was not dramatic and was not a standout. It was boring and non-descriptive of anything. The shot was nothing more than a shutter click and bytes taking up memory.
I decided to challenge myself creatively and work this image. There had to be something within the four corners that I could use. Visually, I ran the image through Intensify to bring out some drama. I then set to work on writing to see if I could find something. That is when I found another unseen world. Through my writing I found a quiet inspiration. I found a moment well beyond the visual—a reflection of the peace and humility we all seek.
Creatively, finding anything of value in this image was a challenge. In -the-end staying with it strengthened my ability to see.
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” ~ Elliott Erwitt

Spring from Nothing
spring blooms from nothing
feel see this moment breathing
return to nothing
What draws me to this is the layering of color between the delphinium and the background flowers. The bokeh softens the mood. There is a strong element of Wabi-Sabi in that the delphinium is not perfect--there are dead blooms among the new. The old and the new represent the circle of life in that we come from nothing and return to nothing. All we have is right now.

Yellow Mist
yellow friendship
softness along defined lines
vulnerable mist
The yellow rose is a symbol of friendship. When we focus on the part that will eventually open and bloom, the lines beyond blur and fade--imperfections become less important. It is about the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi in which we accept the imperfections in life as beautiful.
