Ripened red strawberry. Thought about removing the extra stem from the image, but it was apart of the moment. When I took the image, it was there. Removing it changes the honesty of the moment--this is what I saw, not what I wanted to see. Beauty in the imperfection.

The headstones are quiet now, but the inscription echoes the chaos of war.
U.S. Army Sargent Johnston (then Private First Class), Company A, 356th Infantry, 9th Division was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on November 9, 1918, near Pouilly, France.
When his command needed information on the enemy’s location, he and another soldier volunteered to swim across the river on a reconnaissance mission. They completed the mission while under heavy enemy fire. He was so exhausted upon his return that he had to be pulled from the water.
Courage under fire.

Cicadas live most of their lives underground.
Nymphs emerge every 13 or 17 years in broods to live in trees and lay eggs for a new generation within the bark. Left behind is the exuvia--a shell of its former self.
In Chinese tradition, the cicada symbolizes rebirth and immortality. In Japan, it is the call to summer.

There is no beauty of the bloom. That time has passed. This moment is often overlooked and disregarded. After the bloom is just as important and attractive in its own way. It is the beginning of the next bloom.
